Annealing effects on (0 0 1) Ni films grown on MgO

چکیده
Metal–ceramic interfaces are important in applications as diverse as magnetic storage media and supported catalysts. It is very important to understand how the crystallography and microstructure of metallic films deposited onto ceramic substrates depend on growth and/or annealing conditions so that their physical properties (e.g. magnetic, electronic, etc.) can be tailored for specific applications. To this end, we have studied the epitaxial growth and annealing of (0 0 1) Ni films molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) grown on MgO substrates, where we have observed the evolution of the surface using correlated in situ reflection highenergy-electron diffraction (RHEED) and scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) measurements. We have compared our data with that of (1 1 1) Ni films similarly grown on MgO. # 2003 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

Surface morphology, structure and magnetic anisotropy in epitaxial Ni films
Understanding the correlation between film structure and its ferromagnetic properties is very important for applications. To this end, we have investigated epitaxial and smooth Ni films grown on MgO substrates using molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) and dc sputtering. To establish correlation between film morphology and structure with magnetic properties, we have used in situ and ex situ scanning tu...
متن کاملSurface Morphology and Magnetic Anisotropy
Understanding the correlation between film structure and its ferromagnetic properties is very important for applications. Despite significant lattice mismatch epitaxial (001) fcc Ni films can be grown on MgO substrates using sputtering or molecular beam epitaxy (MBE). For both types of films it is observed that the average magnetization switching field is very similar but its azimuthal dependen...
متن کاملIn situ studies of magnetron sputtered Al–Cu–Fe–Cr quasicrystalline thin films
In situ studies have been performed on thin films in the Al rich region of the Al–Cu–Fe–Cr quasicrystalline phase field. Thin films were grown by magnetron sputtering on atomically flat MgO (0 0 1) and Al O (0 0 0 1) and subsequently studied by 2 3 transmission electron microscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. High resolution electron microscopy shows that thin films (-30 nm) grown at r...
متن کاملThe Perpendicular Magnetic Anisotropy of CoPt/Au Multilayer Films
We have studied the magnetic properties of Au (2 nm)/Co50Pt50 (3 nm)/Au (2 nm) multilayer films prepared on amorphous Al2O3/Si and (0 0 1) MgO substrates. The as-deposited films on both substrates are magnetically soft with an FCC structure and exhibit a perpendicular anisotropy. After annealing at 500 °C, the sample on the Al2O3/Si substrate has become magnetically isotropic but the sample on ...
